You have heard it before, to be happy and appreciate the good in your life, you need to count your blessings consistently. You can be thankful for the good fortune you are having, the loving people surrounding you, the good health you are experiencing, or your financial prosperity. There is much to appreciate if you only think to look for it. Acknowledging your blessings is important, but we want to encourage you to take it a step further to create more of what you want.
Some people consistently count their blessings yet still feel terribly unhappy, unsatisfied, and possibly even guilty for not feeling grateful all the time. These negative emotions may come from having what you need but still feeling like you want more. Wanting more is separate from being thankful for what you have. There is nothing wrong with wanting more. Remember, it is not just about counting your blessings; it’s about activating the positive emotion of gratitude. Positive feelings enhance creativity.
The intention behind counting your blessing is more important than the act of counting your blessings. Counting your blessings should be about activating better feelings. When you feel better, you create better. If the activity isn’t helping your mood, but it reminds you of what you don’t have, it may be counterproductive.
For the vast majority of people, genuinely feeling appreciative, grateful, or experiencing joy takes practice. Activating gratitude comes naturally to some people, while others have to work at it. Trust the more effort and focus you are giving, the more easily better experiences will come to you, and the longer they will stay.
So, don’t just count your blessings; open your heart to them. Your efforts will pay off with a greater sense of well-being and happiness showing up in your life.
That’s it for this week. Until next time.
